About Pendeza Lodge
Why Pendeza Lodge exists
For Monica, Tanzania was meant to be a trip, but it became a calling. She fell in love with the country’s warm-hearted people, its breathtaking landscapes, the extraordinary wildlife and the gentle rhythm of pole pole living. What started as admiration grew into a deep connection and ultimately into a new chapter of life.
In Tanzania she met David, an experienced wildlife guide with more than 15 years in the bush. They founded DaMona Tanzania Safaris, built on one simple belief: every journey should be personal. Whether traveling as a couple, on honeymoon or as a family, their approach has always been to listen carefully and design safaris that reflect each guest’s unique wishes!
Over the years, David has visited and worked with countless lodges and camps throughout the country. This hands-on experience gave him a clear vision of what truly makes a stay exceptional not only in terms of comfort, but in atmosphere, service, location and attention to detail.
They shared another dream to create a place where their guests could begin or end their adventure in comfort and tranquility. A place that reflects the same warmth, authenticity and personal attention that defines their safaris.
That is where their friend Nicole stepped in …
After years of volunteer work in Tanzania, Nicole kept seeing the same pattern: tourism creates opportunities, but often those opportunities don’t reach the people who need them most. Money flows through communities without staying there. Jobs exist but don’t develop skills. Interactions happen but don’t create understanding.
Together we wanted to build something different. Something where tourism actually strengthens the community instead of just using it as a backdrop.
That dream is now becoming reality with Pendeza Lodge. An intimate retreat where couples can unwind, honeymooners can celebrate and families can relax together, surrounded by the beauty and spirit of Tanzania!
Vision
- Pendeza Lodge exists because of people, the community around us, the guests who trust us, the staff who makes it work.
- Tourism creates opportunities when it's done thoughtfully. That's why we focus on long-term impact.
What we actually do
- Employ locally and pay fair wages
- Buy from local suppliers and farmers
- Provide skills training and development
- Keep money circulating in the community
- Use solar heating and local water sources.
Our approach to sustainability
It’s not a marketing label for us. It’s daily choices, some small, some challenging, all intentional. We don’t promise perfection. We promise awareness, honesty and continuous improvement.
What we believe tourism should
- Respect local culture instead of performing it
- Create fair income, not just jobs
- Build community capacity, not dependency
- Feel genuine to everyone involved, guests and locals.
What makes Pendeza Lodge different
- Small-scale and personal
- Built and run together with the local community
- Focus on rest, space and authenticity
- Tourism that contributes to fair income and development.
- No rushing between activities. No crowds. Just space to be yourself!
We kept Pendeza Lodge intentionally small. Twelve rooms means we can stay involved, know our guests, work directly with our staff and maintain the quality of every interaction.
